Ep 139: Toni Everard - Why Business Is Part Of Your Spiritual Evolution
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
If there’s anything that will show you exactly where you need to grow, it’s business and relationships.
In this episode, Toni Everard explores the deeper connection between spirituality, business and personal evolution, and why so many business struggles are actually reflections of unresolved patterns around power, authority, visibility, responsibility and self-worth.
This conversation reframes business as far more than a way to make money. Toni explains how business acts as the vehicle that allows you to bring ideas, vision and purpose into physical reality.
You’ll hear how manifestation doesn’t stop at vision boards, affirmations or meditation. Real manifestation requires structure in the physical world. Offers, systems, sales, marketing and leadership are all part of turning an internal vision into something tangible that creates value for others.
Toni also unpacks the major shift that occurs when moving from employee mindset into business ownership. In a job, someone else creates the structure and holds the authority. In business, you become the authority. You decide the rules, take responsibility, back yourself and learn to lead.
This episode explores:
- why many spiritual people struggle with business structure
- the hidden rebellion underneath “flexibility”
- how business exposes your relationship with power and winning
- why avoiding money, sales and visibility is often spiritual bypassing
- the connection between structure, freedom and self-leadership
- how business becomes a catalyst for deeper integration and growth
If you’ve ever felt torn between spirituality and ambition, or struggled to fully own your value in business, this episode will completely shift the way you think about money, manifestation and what business is really here to teach you.

You are listening to the Coaching Circle with Tony Everard, business and Mindset coach and your strategic thinking partner. This podcast is for those who want to step out of the hustle and glow in the flow. We'll talk about all things mindset, energy, and structure so you can evolve from the inside out and build a business that supports the life you want to live. Let's dive in. Hey, in this episode I'm gonna be going deep into something that I do tend to talk about a lot, but I'm gonna go into a lot more detail about it, and that is very much around why business is part of your spiritual evolution. Now, if you're thinking, "Oh my God, this sounds woo-woo already," well, hold onto your seat, my friend, because we're gonna go deep into this. And, but I really am passionate about explaining this in a way that makes sense and doesn't sound like a bunch of, like, spiritual fluffiness, right? There's, there's actual structure to this. And so if you want to really know why business is part of your spiritual evolution, um, keep listening, right? We're gonna go into it, and you're gonna see why business is so powerful in this space. Uh, and you know, for years I have said that if there's anything that will show you exactly where you need to grow personally, is business, uh, followed closely by relationships or vice versa. Relationships are very much there for our growth, and of course business is still based on relationships. Not necessarily intimate relationships, but how you relate to others. Uh, but yeah, your personal intimate relationship, that's a whole 'nother story. I could probably do another, uh, another episode on that. But business does tend to mirror your identity and how you see yourself and where are the gaps. Uh, it's got a lot to do with your personal relationship with power, with authority, with responsibility, with visibility, with money, your self-worth, your discipline, your trust in yourself and others, uh, your ability to receive, your leadership, and how you can lead yourself, 'cause you need to be able to lead yourself in business before you start leading other people. And business has this very incredible way of exposing all of the places that you still don't fully back yourself, right? Where you still don't feel whole and complete. And I think this is why so many people struggle in business while, you know, they think that they've got a strategy problem. They're like, "Why won't this strategy work for me? I'm doing all the right things. Like, it must be something else that's a problem." Uh, and it's not. It's that y- you've got some stuff that you need to resolve within yourself so that you can evolve. And, uh, you know, that's the thing. I, I, I really believe that business can be very simple with very simple strategies, and my business is always very simple, it's very lean, uh, but it's the work that I continue to do on myself that makes all of the difference, and it's the same with my clients. This is the work that I do with my clients, and why after a session suddenly someone has two, three clients drop in. Just like that, right? Because they've resolved the thing within themselves. Uh, and it's not because they've suddenly done a fancy new strategy, right? So business is deeply spiritual when you actually understand what it is, and this is what I wanna go into. So I wanna start with talking a bit about the four planes of creation. And now, you might realize that as a human being, you're a creative being, right? We create... And people talk a lot about manifestation and all those kinds of things, but we create. Everything that you have, you create. Like, what you put on in the day is a creation of yours for your outfit, of how you wanna look, and how that's gonna feel, and what... how that's gonna be perceived, and all those kinds of things. Your house and how your house is presented is all part of your creation. Your garden is all part of your creation. How you do your hair or your makeup or, you know, how you wear, if you're a man, how you wear your facial hair, everything is all to do with your creation, what it is that you imagine and then bring into manifest, right, bring into reality. So, you know, if we think about the four planes of creation, we're gonna start by thinking that, you know, you might have an idea that comes through for you intuitively. It might be a vision, a desire, you know, something that you feel called to create, right? Something that you get this intuitive kind of inspiration and you're like, "Ah, okay, this has come to my mind," and then you start thinking about how you can create it. So it comes from the spiritual plane first, right? That's consciousness, where this comes from. It's really interesting, 'cause I've watched, uh... I watched the Michael Jackson movie again for the second time, because my daughter's a big fan and, uh, she's been four times now. This was my second time. But there's a part in it that I really love, where Michael's, uh, floating in the swimming pool, and he's floating there, and his brothers are like, "What are you doing, Michael?" And he said, "I'm, I'm receiving. I have to be here to receive. I have to be here f- to receive and let God know that I'm here receiving, because otherwise he might give those ideas to Prince." Um, and I love that, because we do download things. We get inspiration that come from the spiritual plane, they come from consciousness. And, um, you know, that's, that's the spiritual plane. Okay, so it comes from i- things exist in the spiritual plane first. Then you think about it, right? This thing pops into your mind, and then you start thinking about it, and you analyze it, and you create meaning around it, and you strategize and, you know, you think about all of the ways that, you know, you want to think about it, and what it might do for you, and all those kinds of things. So that happens in the mental plane. Okay, and then when you've thought about it enough, you will start to feel things about it. You might feel excitement, you might feel fear, you might feel doubt, you might feel passion, you know, you might feel happiness, joy. You might feel motivated. Uh, all of that then is in the emotional plane. Okay, but even though you've had this idea, and you've thought about it, and you've got feelings about it, it doesn't manifest in the physical until we bring it into the physical, okay? 'Cause we live in the physical plane. We live in the physical plane. We live in the physical realm. We, we have solid, tangible, actual things in the physical plane, okay? We don't live in the spiritual plane. We don't live in the mental plane or the emotional plane. We live in the physical plane, and we draw it down from the spiritual through the mental and the emotional, and then create in the physical plane. Okay, so manifest-- what you're manifesting only becomes real when something exists physically. And so when we think about how does business fit into that, well, business is an incredible vehicle that we have in the physical plane that allows you to bring what exists in your mind, in your thoughts, in your heart, into the physical reality, okay? Because your business allows you, gives you the structure to bring that spiritual, mental, emotional into s- the physical. This is why I believe that business is one of the most powerful tools for personal and spiritual evolution because it requires you to take what exists inside you and then structure it into something real, right? An offer, a service, a product, a system, a client experience, a, a movement, right, a business model, something that creates value in the physical world. That's what business is. And not only that, it's not just, like, the products or service that we create, but the lifestyle that we create, right? When we say how much money we want to have in the physical realm, how much time we wanna have, how we wanna structure our time. Business gives you the structure to be in control of that, right? A job doesn't give you that. Job... If you're in a job, you're in somebody else's structure. But when you have your own business, you create the structure by which you choose to live by and what you want to see in the world. And so you have something that creates value in the physical world, and when people receive value from it, they exchange money for it, okay? And so money is part of the physical manifestation 'cause then you've got money, and money allows things to exist physically. Right? It allows you to purchase your home, to travel, to have experiences, to be supported, to create your own freedom, to be able to manage your own time, right? To be able to, you know, have whatever resources it is that you want to have, to be able to contribute to something bigger than yourself, to have an impact, right? This all comes through the structure of business, being able to create what it is that you wanna put out in the world that's of value, that then people give you money for, and that then you have that money that you can use for whichever way you want. But it gives you... It- getting business right means that you have much greater creative power in the physical realm than if you were in a job. Okay? 'Cause if you're in a job, you don't have control over all of those aspects. You step into somebody else's structure, and borrow somebody else's structure who's created it for themselves, and then you've gotta make that work for you. But when you have business and you learn to do that for yourself, then you get to be the master of your reality and what you're creating for yourself. And so when I think about this, uh, and why so many spiritual people struggle in business, there's a very good reason. And I think where a lot of people become conflicted, especially in the coaching and healing and spiritual, uh, industries, is that many people try to bypass the money aspect of creating in the physical realm. Okay. So people want to have freedom, and they wanna have impact, and they want imp- abundance, and they wanna feel like they're fulfilling their purpose and, and, you know, feeling like they've got connection, and, you know, the spirituality side of things. But they avoid sales and marketing and pricing and visibility and competition and structure, right? Or leadership as well, leadership and money. Um, but the thing is, all of those things are not separate from the spiritual journey. They are part of it. They're all part of how you learn to create and master how to create in the physical reality, right? That's how you learn how to master, to bring down the spiritual into the physical plane. This is the real key thing, because you cannot meditate your way out of needing structure in the physical world. Okay? You cannot live entirely in affirmations and visualizations and energetic concepts while avoiding the practical structures required to bring things into reality. Okay? So to truly manifest something requires action in the physical plane, and this is where business becomes deeply transform- transformational. So we can look at all of those things like sales and marketing and money and leadership and all those things, is part of the manifestation process Okay? A lot of people wanna think, "If I, if I'm really good at manifesting, and I can visualize, and I can feel it, and I just, you know, I'm just telling myself it's already here, that it's magically gonna appear." But it's not magically gonna appear. It's gonna a- appear through the structure of business that you create, and in you being good with doing all of those things, then you're creating the channel of the flow of manifestation. Okay? Because you get to manifest what it is that you create and the money that you make, and then you can bring into your reality all of those things that you wanna have. Right? It's a big part of that. And, uh, and so that's why business becomes deeply transformational, because you have to step into your power to fully accept that you can do that full process of creation in the physical plane. And so this is where we really wanna look at the difference between an employee mindset versus, uh, a business ownership. Now, I haven't got anything against people having jobs, and in fact, people who have jobs, and especially if your job's in sales and marketing, you're gonna... Y- if you understand sales and marketing, it's gonna be part of your evolution anyway. But there are jobs, and, you know, you don't have to feel like, oh, um, you know, it's right or wrong. But, you know, this podcast is designed for people who want to be in business, right? Because how much you evolve on this journey is all to do with your environment and what you want to experience on the physical plane. Right? That is it, and everybody's at a different level of that journey. I do think, though, that even if you're like, "No, I'm having a job, and that's fine," jobs are not going to be what they used to be. You're still gonna have to be treating yourself like a business for you to have constant, uh, employment and money coming into your life that you can rely on. Right? Gone are the days where you're gonna go and work for a big company and be there for 50 years, and, you know, just work there and then retire. Like, that's just not happening anymore because the world moves so fast that you have to treat yourself still like a business, and that means you're keeping yourself relevant, that you've always make sure that you've got some value to offer to the world, and, you know, all of those kinds of things. But that's going a little bit aside. We're, we're talking about particularly for business owners, which is the majority of my audience. And so when we think about this employee mindset versus a business ownership, when you move from employee to business owner, everything changes. Because when you're employed, somebody else... You're using somebody else's, uh, manifestation- Okay? Somebody else is carrying the risk, somebody else has defined the framework, somebody else has decided the ceiling and the capacity for you of where you can go. Somebody else holds the authority over all of the decision-making, and you step into a role within their system that they've created for their ultimate outcomes. Okay? But if you choose a business, then you become the authority, and so you're the one who decides the rules, and you take responsibility, and you create the s- the systems, and you influence the outcomes, and you have to be the one who stands behind your product and service and backs it, and you decide how much value you wanna create in the world. Right? There's nobody there that's saying, "Yes," you know, "Yes, that's right, you can earn this amount of money because I say that what you're doing in this time is worth that amount of money." Nobody's gonna tell you that in your own business. You have to decide it for yourself, and so this becomes a big challenge, right? When people aren't fully, uh, kn- like, not fully knowing what the value is that they can bring to the world, then it's very hard to do that in business. Okay? And that's why part of the evolution is really understanding value and that there's unlimited value that you can create in the world, right? That you can create these outcomes. But for many people, this becomes very confronting. It's a very confronting thing And I, I'm laughing because I've been here. Like, I've... I'm now in business for over 10 years, and I've been through all of these stages, and I remember the point when I f- and this was, like, I don't know, a few years ago. It's probably five years ago or so where I finally went, "Oh, I get it. I now understand business." So even if I didn't have this business, I could start another business, right? I could still... I can still use business as the vehicle to create in my world because I understand business, right? It's not just that I'm a good coach, it's not just that I know how to help p- people with their businesses and to break through what's holding them back. Like, literally, if I couldn't do that anymore, I could create a different business, 'cause I understand business. It's in my neurology, and this is the thing that you want to really get, okay? Because if you haven't fully integrated into your own power and authority, then y- you know, it, it's, it's an uphill battle. Okay? So... And I can tell you, like, with my own relationship with this, when I've... When I first started my business and I did values work, and I looked at my values- My number one value in business, in the context of business, was flexibility. Now, I can tell you now that that's wildly an inappropriate value for business, is having flexibility as your number one, but this was how much work I had to do, right? Because at the time I thought it sounded very empowering, but what it actually meant for me unconsciously, me just stepping out of a job, was that nobody's gonna tell me what to do, nobody's gonna control me, nobody tells me when to work, nobody tells me how I have to do an- anything or when I have to do it or anything else. And so flexibility really for me was just rebelling. I was just rebelling against my perception that there was an authority outside of me, and that I was rebelling against that, that I could do whatever I wanted. And the fact is, I could do whatever thing... whatever I wanted, but at the same time I couldn't because what I wanted to do was grow a business and I wouldn't do the things that would grow my business at that time. Okay? So I was still relating to power and authority as something outside of myself. So I was fighting against s- something, some perceived, uh, you know, power that was outside of myself, 'cause I hadn't integrated it into myself yet to realize that I'm the one who has the power and the authority to, not to avoid things, but to get results. To get the actual results that I wanted. And so because I hadn't got that yet, structure still felt restrictive to me instead of supportive. Discipline felt controlling instead of empowering. And eventually, you know, I realized that true freedom wasn't the absence of responsibility, it wasn't the absence of, of structure, true freedom is actually your ability to manage your responsibilities and to create a structure that supports what you're saying you actually want to have in your life and in your business. Right? It's the ease of which you can handle your responsibilities, and that is an evolution thing. That comes from your capacity expanding into how you can stand in the world and create, right? And back yourself in creating that and taking responsibility for all of the parts that need to happen for that. Right? It's exactly the same for, you know, all areas of your life. It's your health is the same. If you feel like you're struggling with your health and you're like, "Oh my God, there's like nothing I can do," and, "Oh, I don't like, you know, di- feel restricting or going to the gym," da da da, it's the same thing. You haven't fully integrated your own power and authority over your own health. Right? It's a big one. Uh, so you know, this is, this is the thing that we wanna really come to understand, and this is what changed everything for me. Um, and understanding that business is this vehicle that we need to master, to master the, the physical realm. And once you can master the physical realm- Of course, you can then be way more spiritual, because if you think about what is spirituality, well, spirituality is being, doing good things in the world and, uh, helping others, and being fully connected, and, um, being fully connected to yourself and, you know, being able to do the work you're for. God knows you're gonna do that a whole lot better when your business is successful. There's, there's no two ways around it, right? It's going to make you way more spiritual mastering business than you sitting there thinking that you're spiritual and rejecting power and authority and money and everything else. Because p- b- business does require you to integrate your own personal power. Business asks, can you trust yourself enough to lead? Can you back yourself? Can you hold responsibility? Can you stay focused? Can you continue when your emotions are fluctuating? That's a nice word. We know what your emotion's probably doing. Can you continue when you're feeling something? Right? The amount of clients that say to me, "Oh, I'm just feeling this, I'm just feeling that," I'm like, "Yeah, I get it. You have to decide that you're gonna be able to manage that, and work through it." Right? You have to be in... You have to back yourself. You have to decide that you're gonna be the one who can manage. You're a safe container for your own emotions. Doesn't mean push your emotions down. It doesn't mean ignore your emotion. It just means recognize them and acknowledge them, and if it's, there's something that needs to change, do it. Right? But don't collapse into your emotions. Okay? That's, doesn't help anybody. It doesn't help you. It doesn't build self-trust if you collapse into your emotions. Right? Business also asks you, can you be visible? Can you be seen? Are you willing for people to fully see you in your humanness, and what it is that you say you're about, and what it is that you say you can create? Can you receive attention? Right? Do you feel safe enough receiving attention? Because you're not gonna succeed in business being the best-kept secret. People have to know about you, right? People have to know the truth about you. So you have to be willing for people to see and even disagree with what you're about. Can you receive money? Are you allowing yourself to be powerful enough to accept money into your world? 'Cause there is money everywhere. Money is everywhere, and if you're telling yourself stories about, oh, money's scarce, or anything else, it's because you don't wanna face the fact that if money is actually everywhere, then there's part of you that doesn't feel good enough, or there's something wrong with you that you don't have access to it, and that's confronting. Okay, so you have to allow yourself to be powerful enough to decide that you can have money, that you can access money. Business also m- asks you to allow yourself to win, right? This is a really interesting one, and this is another conversation that people often avoid because, you know, one of the things that is true is that people who have... who are competitive or have played in some kind of competitive sports or some kind of com- competition something, generally do better in business because business does contain an element of winning, right? Of winning. You can't just be okay with just whatever happens in business. You've gotta set goals and decide you're gonna win those goals. And that doesn't mean you're winning at the expense of other people. Doesn't mean you're winning through greed or through manipulation, but through creating value at a high level, solving meaningful problems, right? Helping people create better lives, becoming excellent at what you do, learning to communicate clearly, building something impactful, and yeah, absolutely, creating more for yourself in the process. This is the whole win. You get to be the winner. You get to win the game of life, right? You get more freedom, more money, more experiences, more opportunities, more support, more impact. So you have to be okay with winning, right? You have to be okay with winning. And, and this is really important because if y- you've... I, I was... You know, you would've heard this before. People talk about you are the average of the five people that are around you. If the people that are around you feel like they can't win and you start winning, does that feel uncomfortable for you? Right? Does that feel uncomfortable for you? 'Cause that will be a thing that will stop you from winning, right? Winning at life, winning at business. Winning, winning... When I talk about winning, it's winning as in you get to choose what good outcome you want, and you win that through your efforts. Okay, there's loads of people in the world who don't think that they can win at life. They think that the odds are stacked up against them, and they don't want anyone to prove that wrong because then they have to be faced with their own reality that they don't actually think they're good enough. Rather than blaming everything else, they have to face the reality that it's them that's the problem. Okay, so if you don't feel safe being the person who wins, business will become unnecessarily difficult, right? Because success increases visibility as well. It increases responsibility. You know, people say, "Oh, if I just won the lotto, then my life would be, you know, easy." No, it wouldn't. You'd have a whole bunch of responsibility that comes with having won however much money you think you wanna win. It's gonna come with responsibility, okay? Success, uh, increases responsibility, attention, influence, how much you get to receive. Um, and a lot of people unconsciously fear those things, but we've gotta remember that fear is not the same as danger, right? So we've gotta be able to face our fears. Fear is not the same as danger, right? And this'll be particularly relevant to you if you grew up around jealousy, or criticism, or guilt, or people that would emotionally shut down, or stonewall, or give the silent treatment, or show disgust for things. Um, you know, like the whole thing I've been talking about is, like, where people feel like, oh, the, like, the s- the odds are stacked against them, or the world's out to get them, or the government is, or da-da-da, whatever reason that they've got for why they can't have what they want. If you grew up around those people, right, then they've got really unhealthy relationships with power, and they might be downplaying, you know, like, what's actually possible. And so if you then win and become successful, you become a mirror for all of their lies, all the lies that they're telling themselves about why they can't have what they want, and that might be triggering for some people, okay? And so rather than be that mirror and, and, you know, have people that you've maybe loved or respected or, you know, relied on for your survival, instead of having them triggered by you going out and being successful, people start downplaying themselves. They undercharge. They avoid sales. They avoid visibility. They avoid structure, and they avoid leadership. And then they wanna tell themselves that there's a business problem. "I just don't have the right strategy yet." Okay? But really business is simply revealing where integration still needs to occur, where you can become powerful. And then ultimately, you know, might there be people that fade away from your life when you become successful? Yes, and you'll also want there to be people that fade awri- away as you become successful 'cause I can guarantee you you've got people in your life who are not there for your best interests, that they're not there in support of you being your best self, and you don't want people around like that. Okay? You want people who are gonna support you and being your best version of yourself. It's, it's wild when I think about this, and it's so wild because I know I was there as well. Like, I, I used to sacrifice myself s- like, incredibly for connection to others, and when I really got this, I was just like, "Holy smokes." Why the hell would I want people in my life that do not s- do not support me in being the best version of myself? Just because it makes them uncomfortable 'cause they don't wanna face their own crap. Like, it's, it's crazy Uh, and it's why a lot of people, like, do heaps of work and then find that they can't quite get... find the thing to shift, is because unconsciously they're not prepared to, to face that. So you have to be willing to know that my growth is not a threat to anybody else. Any threat anybody else sees is an illusion, and they can just as easily choose to see it as inspiration, that you're in service of them by growing and succeeding, that it can be the just the thing that inspires them to step up and stop sprouting off all their negative crap, BS stories about why they haven't got what they want. Okay, so business is really asking you to become more whole, and this is why I believe business is part of your spiritual evolution, because it does ask you to become whole, right? Not just spiritual, not just emotional, not just intellectual, but fully integrated. In- integrated in a way that you're capable of bringing your ideas, and your gifts, and your vision fully into the physical reality. So we have to remember, right, you don't have to reject money to be a good person. You don't have to reject ambition to be spiritual. You don't have to reject structure to create freedom. You can be deeply caring and highly successful at the same time. You can be spiritually connected and financially abundant. You can make a massive impact while also creating a, an incredible life for yourself and your family. And of course, you're always gonna help far more people when your own cup is full. So when you feel fully powerful, and fully self-resourced, and fully like you can create whatever it is that you want for yourself, then of course you can help more people. Right? When you have more resources, and support, and energy, and time, and experiences, and capacity, then of course you're gonna be able to do better things in the world. And being able to create this through business and then having more money, when you've got more money, money just amplifies what already exists. So if you've grown as a person, and that growth has allowed you to make more money, well, then it's just going to amplify more of what great things you can do in the world, and business gives you the structure to create that, right? So if business has been triggering you lately, it's good. It means that there's something inside you is ready to evolve. And if you feel like you've been through s- different programs, like, you know, so often when I talk to clients, they're like, "Oh yeah, I paid all this money to be in this big program, and that still didn't... And like I learned a lot, but that still didn't fix my problem," and, you know, "I've done this with this person and that with that person, and I still feel like, you know, I, I, like, I'm just not getting there," then you wanna reach out to me, my friend, because I can assure you, I can find and unpack and help you resolve what pattern you've actually got going on underneath faster than what you thought was possible. But only if you truly desire it. If you don't truly desire it, you'll come up with every single reason other than resolving what the actual issue is. So if you're like, "Yeah, I know there's something. I know I've been dancing around this, but like I'm ready. I'm backing myself to go full on," then, uh, send me an email, and I will have a chat with you about what's going on. And if you're in a situation where you're like, "Yeah, I'm ready to really go deep into this," and I can see what your goals are, then you can come in and do my five-day challenge, which has been getting phenomenal outcomes for people. It's been amazing. Um, but this, what I'm offering now, will be getting turned into a group program. So there's limited time available where you can actually get to do this with me one-on-one. Um, and it's a six-month program. You get a one-on-one intensive with me, and after that one-on-one intensive, I've been hearing clients say, "I've just had two clients sign up. I've now got three clients signed up." Like, everything is shifting for people super fast, because we get to the actual block, and we actually resolve it in a way that allows you to have the capacity and the neurology to master business and move into your next level, and it happens fast, right? It happens really fast. So if this sounds like, yes, I want to get onto this, then email me. Uh, send me an email. Tell me you're interested in my five-day challenge. Tell me what it is that you're doing and what you want to achieve and what you feel is blocking you, and then if I've got spaces open, we'll get you booked in for the five-day challenge. Five-day challenge is still free. Um, and this format's not gonna be lasting forever either, so take advantage of it. Um, they get snapped up really quickly. I'm not always talking about it here on the podcast, but they get snapped up, um, through my newsletter list, uh, through people that I know and I speak to just at events and meet at, at events. They go really, really fast. So, um, this is your opportunity if you know that there's a next level of your evolution that needs to happen, and it's...
